🧳 The sudoku packing method explained!

Hey gorgeous! ✨

Have you heard of the Sudoku Packing Method? It's also called the 3x3x3 method, but Sudoku is a way cooler name - and honestly, it describes it perfectly.

Here's the idea:

You pick 9 pieces of clothing that all work together in a 3x3 grid.

βœ… 3 tops

βœ… 3 bottoms

βœ… 3 layers.

Every single piece is compatible with every other piece - across rows AND columns.

The result? 27 mix-and-match outfits from just 9 pieces.

Here's how the grid works - each column and each row is already a complete outfit:

TOP LAYER BOTTOM
BOTTOM TOP LAYER
LAYER BOTTOM TOP

And because everything is cross-compatible, you can swap pieces across columns to multiply the looks. That's where the 27 comes from.

Try this at home. It's fun. And way more difficult than it sounds LOL

🚫 The thing most people get wrong when they try this? They start with tops.

I get it. Tops are fun! But tops should actually be the LAST thing you choose. Here's the order that actually works:

  1. Start with your bottoms. Bottoms set the tone for everything - your shoes, your tops, your whole vibe. They're also the hardest to get right. (Finding shorts that actually fit well and flatter you? A whole mission) Lock these in first and everything else follows naturally.
  2. Then choose your layers. They need to work with all 3 bottoms AND pull double or triple duty. Your linen button-down shirt counts as a top, a light jacket, sun coverage, and a swim cover-up. Your linen pashmina works as a scarf, a plane layer, and a beach wrap.
  3. Finally, pick your tops. By this point the last assignment is to find 3 tops that work with all 3 bottoms and all 3 layers. Simple tanks in neutral or complementary colors do this effortlessly. (T-shirts or solid colored tops work too)

Shoes follow the same rule: both pairs must work with all 3 bottoms. If a shoe only goes with one or two of your bottoms, it stays home (I know 😬)

Here's how mine looks like - keep in mind this is for summer travel:

You can save the image above as pin, inside any of your Pinterest boards! (here's the actual pin)

For my Sudoku grid I used:

  1. beige tank
  2. white tank
  3. green tank
  4. beige shorts
  5. floral shorts
  6. floral midi skirt
  7. linen shirt
  8. linen jacket
  9. linen pashmina
  10. casual sandals
  11. leather sandals

Remember this is good for a 4-5 day long trip. You can fit this in a personal item!

And for a full week? You don't rebuild the grid. You just add 2 extra tops, 1 extra bottom, and 1 dress outside of it. That's it. (Not more shoes. I see you πŸ‘€)

I broke the whole thing down on the blog - including all 27 outfit formulas laid out so you can see it all in action before you try it yourself.

Today's email is going to feel a little different from what I usually send you, and I want to tell you why upfront. Most weeks I'm in your inbox showing you outfits, sharing packing tricks, getting you excited about your next trip. And I love that for us. But every once in a while, I want to put the styling tips on pause and have a more honest, behind the scenes conversation with you. Today is one of those days. Because here's what I've been thinking about a lot lately: I know some of you...

I was scrolling through Ann Taylor a couple of weeks ago trying to find a Mother's Day gift for my mom. She's petite, so that brand fits her really well. The funny thing is, I went in looking for one specific top and ended up with a tab open of about fifteen things I wanted for myself πŸ˜… I used to shop at Ann Taylor SO much... and then just... forgot they existed LOL. But anyway, I was reminded of how cute their spring and summer styles are. This is sounding like a sponsored email haha but...

April was a good month for outfits. Like, a really good month. I'm writing this from San Miguel de Allende, where we spent most of April, and honestly we don't want to leave. It's stunning, and it's the kind of place that makes you want to put cute outfits together. Beautiful streets, great spots to eat, things to do every day. Getting dressed here almost feels like part of the experience. The weather helps too. Cool mornings in the high 50s, warm sunny afternoons in the low 80s, and evenings...
