🧐 Are you wearing your travel outfits in the wrong order?

Hey gorgeous! ✨

Let's talk about something I've never really talked about before:

The order you wear your clothes actually matters.

Because your body on Day 1 of a trip is not the same body on Day 4. And that’s not something to fight or feel weird about. It’s just… travel.

I was reminded of this last year when we had a special visitor here in Mexico. She brought this super cute dress that looked perfect when she tried it on back home (it's a gorgeous dress, I also have it!). But by day 4, after flights, eating out, irregular bathroom schedules, and a little travel bloat? The dress suddenly felt off.

Not because there was something “wrong,” but because it was a day-1 piece being worn on a day-4 body.

That moment was such a good reminder that packing well isn’t only about what you bring. It’s also about how you rotate your pieces, when you debut them, and how you pace your outfits throughout the trip.

Yes, that includes wearing more fitted items earlier. But it also means:

1️⃣ Repeating pieces in smarter ways,

2️⃣ thinking ahead about forgiving fabrics and

3️⃣ sequencing your outfits so they continue to feel good as the trip goes on.

Because nothing ruins vacation vibes faster than standing in your hotel room halfway through a trip thinking:

“Why does nothing feel right?” and immediately blaming your body instead of your packing strategy 😭

And before you panic - no, this is not about creating a rigid outfit schedule or turning your vacation into a spreadsheet... although I do love a good spreadsheet.

This is about understanding a few simple principles that make everything easier! You’ll get more wears out of fewer pieces, your outfits will feel better day after day, and you’ll never hit that mid-trip panic moment of “I have nothing left to wear.”

So today, I’m walking you through a few easy, realistic ways to think about when to wear what you packed — and why this approach makes such a big difference.

Let’s get into it!

1️⃣ The "dinner-first" rule

This is the trick that lets me pack waaaay less than most people think is possible. Here's how it works:

Wear your tops for the first time at dinner or for a short evening outing.

You're only wearing it for 2–3 hours max, so it barely counts as a full wear. Think of it as 0.5 wears.

Then, a few days later, wear that same top for a full day of sightseeing, exploring, or travel.

✨ Why this works:

  • The top is still basically clean after dinner, so you can confidently rewear it later in the trip
  • You get two completely different looks out of one piece
  • It stretches your wardrobe without feeling repetitive

Example for a Spring trip:

🌙 Night 2: Wear a turtleneck with a silk midi skirt, leather crossbody bag and leather sneakers for a night out.

☀️ Day 6: Wear the same turtleneck, layered with a denim jacket and Ponte wide leg pants for a full day of exploring.

Two totally different vibes. Same top. Same trip.

Zero guilt.

2️⃣ Pack pieces that forgive your body's natural changes

Your body just feels different when you're traveling. We all experience it.

It's a feature of traveling, not a bug. And it's completely normal!

When you're on vacation, you're eating out more, maybe drinking a little extra, your bathroom schedule might be off, you're sitting on planes for hours... it all adds up.

By day 4 or 5, your body might feel a little puffier or bloated. And that's totally okay! It happens to all of us.

My favorite trick is to pack pieces that work with your body no matter how you're feeling.

These were my top 5 forgiving pieces for my latest trip:

I'm not saying you can't pack your favorite fitted jeans or crop tops (I definitely do!).

But do make sure most of the pieces in your suitcase are forgiving and make you feel good on those bloated days. Because trust me, they will happen. And you don't want to be stuck with only fitted options.

3️⃣ Rotate your bottoms!

Your bottoms are the easiest pieces to rewear, and you don't need to overthink this.

Just try not to wear the same bottom pieces two days in a row.

Give them a day or two to breathe, and they'll feel fresh again. That's it!

I recently just did this for my 6 weeks in Asia. I only packed 5 bottoms. But I also brought 2 dresses and 1 jumpsuit.

Here's more or less an example of how I rotated them during the first 10 days of the trip: (I documented everything!)

And so on... I did this for 6 weeks (doing laundry of course). ICYMI ➡️ here's the full blog post with the packing list and all the outfits.

✨ Why rotating works:

  • It keeps your outfits feeling varied even though you're repeating pieces
  • Your clothes have time to air out between wears
  • You'll feel more excited about getting dressed every day

One last thing...

You don't need a complicated system or a strict schedule for this.

It's really just about being a little more intentional with what you pack and when you wear it.

✅ Debut tops at dinner so you can rewear them for full days later

✅ Pack forgiving pieces that work with your body no matter how you're feeling

✅ Wear your more fitted pieces at the beginning of your trip

✅ Space out your bottom pieces so nothing feels repetitive

Once you start thinking this way, packing and getting dressed on vacation becomes so much easier.

You're not just throwing random pieces in a suitcase and hoping they work. You're creating a strategy that lets you pack less, wear everything you bring, and feel confident every single day of your trip.

And honestly? That's the whole point of this whole packing light thing.

See you next Friday - I'll be sharing a packing list perfect for first time carry-on travelers! I went all in and also created all the outfits in advance for you. It's perfect for spring travel.

See you then 👀

XO,

Aimara

Okay, I have to come clean about something. This is one of the questions I get most often — "Aimara, your tips are great, but I'm not a size XS. Does any of this actually work for me?" And for a long time I kind of danced around it. Not because I didn't care, but because it's genuinely not my personal experience. I'm a size small, and I didn't want to pretend I had all the answers when I don't. But here's what changed my mind... I watch my husband pack for every single trip we take. He's...

Before we get into this, let me say the obvious. I know I usually show up in your inbox talking about packing lists, carry-ons, and how to make fewer clothes work harder when you travel. 🌎 That’s my world. I live out of this little suitcase most of the year, and packing light is second nature to me. But here’s something I don’t say enough: Every good packing list starts with an easy closet. And by easy, I don’t mean tiny or perfect or Pinterest-worthy. I'm talking about a closet that doesn’t...

Spring break looks different for everyone... 🇲🇽 Maybe you're heading to Mexico with your girlfriends for a long-overdue trip. 🌴 Maybe it's a family week in Florida or the Bahamas, navigating the beach with kids in tow. 🛳️ Maybe you booked a cruise and you're genuinely not sure how to pack for something that's half resort, half adventure. 😎 Or maybe it's a 4-day long weekend somewhere warm and sunny because honestly?
