πŸ‘– Stop packing the wrong pants (these 5 are πŸ”₯)

Travel pants. We need to talk about them and how much they can make or break a trip.

Seriously.

Think about your pants before your trip, not during it. Because once you're already on the road, it's too late.

You're either comfortable, stylish, and moving through your days with ease, or you're uncomfortable, frustrated, and secretly wishing you'd packed something different.

The right travel pants do a lot of heavy lifting. They take you from a long flight to a nice dinner without skipping a beat, they pack down small, they don't wrinkle into a disaster, and they make everything else in your suitcase easier to style.

So today I'm sharing the 5 pants I actually pack, trip after trip, tested on cobblestone streets, long-haul flights, and many, many plates of pasta 🍝

There are so many great travel pants out there, but I'm keeping this list to the 5 I've personally tried and tested. These are the ones that keep showing up in my suitcase, trip after trip, no questions asked.

For sizing reference I am 5'4"(1.63 m) and about 125 lbs (57 kg)

1️⃣ Ultra-Stretch Ponte Cropped Wide Leg Pants

Let's start with the fabric, because it's everything. Ponte is a thick, structured knit that looks polished and tailored from the outside, but feels soft and stretchy from the inside. It holds its shape all day, doesn't wrinkle, and survives being rolled up in a suitcase without any complaints. For travel, that combination is hard to beat.

I own these in every color except for purple and they are genuinely my favorite "going out" pants.

High waist, front pockets, wide leg crop. The high waist is key for me because I live in crop tops and French tuck almost everything else, and this waistband works perfectly with both. The front pockets are deep and actually functional!

One honest note on sizing though, because I want you to get this right.

I wear the black ones in size 2, inseam 26". For my other colors I went with size 4, inseam 24". And even at size 4, the morel grey and olive fit me well, but the brown and navy ran a little big. Sizing does seem to vary across colors.

2️⃣ Tapered Linen Pants

Hot weather destination? In my opinion, nothing beats linen.

Linen keeps you cool in a way synthetic fabrics just can't replicate, and these pants are easy enough to take from a morning at the market straight to dinner without thinking about it twice.

I own these pants in several colors and they fit true to size. For darker colors I wear XS, for lighter colors I prefer size S. I do this because my hips don't lie and light colored pants add volume. Nothing wrong with that, but just a personal preference.

Length wise, at 5'4" they hit perfectly. If you're taller than 5'7" though, they'll likely be too cropped. Quince does have other linen pant styles worth exploring, including some with different inseam options.

They also have pockets, which honestly just seals the deal for me πŸ‘

3️⃣ Audrey Wide Leg Pants

Don't let the elastic waist fool you. These are not your average casual pants.

The wide leg silhouette makes them look elevated and intentional, nothing frumpy about them. The fabric is super lightweight, stretches just the right amount, dries fast, and comes out of your suitcase completely wrinkle-free. The elastic waist is flattering (not the kind that digs in or rolls down), and yes, they have pockets too!

These pants are super comfortable for long flights, heavy sightseeing days, or slow cafΓ© mornings when comfort is non-negotiable but you still want to look like yourself. Easy to dress up or down depending on what you pair them with.

I wear size S petite. They come in regular, petite, and tall, which is genuinely rare and so helpful for getting the right length. Right now they're in stock in a couple of neutrals and some fun prints, so worth checking what's available!

If you don't like cropped pants, they also have the trouser version (longer). Same pants, just different cut and lenght.

Side note, look at the reviews and the AI summary 😳 (this stuff is getting too good!)

4️⃣ Albion Fit Destination Joggers

Yes, Albion makes it onto this list twice. When a brand gets travel pants right, they really get it right.

Same lightweight, wrinkle-free, quick-dry fabric as the Audrey pants, but a different silhouette. These are slightly more fitted, but still with a structured waistband that holds everything in without cutting into you or rolling down after hours of walking. They also have pockets!

The main difference from the Audrey? These are a little more casual. You can still dress them up, but they work with fewer shoe options, so keep that in mind when you're planning your vacation outfits.

I wear size S petite and they fit true to size. They come in petite and tall options and run from XXS to XXXL.

I ate my way through Italy for three months straight in these pants. They showed up for me every single day. That's the only endorsement that actually matters 🍝

5️⃣ Spanx Pants

If you've never tried actual Spanx pants (not their shapewear, their pants), you're missing out.

I own their white cropped wide leg pants (Petite S) and a few pieces from their Air Essentials line (size S), and honestly? The brand just delivers.

Everything is wrinkle resistant or wrinkle free, incredibly flattering, and has that sleek polished finish that makes you look put-together with barely any effort. Some personal favorites are:

⭐️ Cropped Wide Leg Pant β€” the one I have a similar version of. Polished, flattering, and just slightly dressier than the others on this list. Great if you want something that can pull double duty between sightseeing and a nicer dinner out.

⭐️ Utility Barrel Leg Pant β€” a fun, trending silhouette with patch pockets. A little more casual and relaxed but still very stylish.

⭐️ Easy Flare Pant β€” if you love a retro inspired flare leg, this one is worth a look. Spanx runs true to size but always worth reading reviews before you buy.

Oh, and remember the Spanx sale I mentioned a couple of weeks ago? They still have quite a few items marked down. Not as good as it was two weeks ago, but if you've been thinking about adding some Spanx pieces to your travel wardrobe, now is still a pretty good time to check it out!

When you're building your packing list, please start with your bottom pieces first.

Pants, skirts, shorts, all of it. I know it feels backwards but tops are easy β€” a basic tee or simple tank works with almost anything.

Bottoms are where the real decisions happen. They set the tone for your shoes, your tops, your whole look. Get those right first and the rest of your packing list basically writes itself.

I just had a couple of travel days, and I took notes. Literal notes πŸ€“ On my phone, at the gate, between my two flights, and yes (even while discreetly unbuttoning my bodysuit in the bathroom because I thought it would be "fine" for a travel day). It was not. More on that later. Here's the thing about airports: if you pay attention, they'll teach you everything about how to travel well. What works, what doesn't, what to pack, what to leave at home. I people-watch every single time I fly, and...

When you live out of a small carry-on, every single piece has to earn its spot. Not "I might wear this." Not "oh this is cute, I'll pack it just in case." Everything in my bag has to actually pull its weight. It has to mix with multiple other things and create real outfits, not just possibilities. I have no choice. I have to force myself to make it work if I want to keep traveling light (which I do). That pressure has changed how I shop, how I pack, and honestly how I look at my closet too....

I just published the most comprehensive travel clothing guide I've ever written β€” and honestly, I've been wanting to write this one for a long time. Not a generic "pack a white tee and call it a day" kind of guide. A real one. The kind that actually tells you which categories of clothing matter for travel, which fabrics work for which climates, and exactly which pieces to buy β€” with brand names, real opinions, and no fillers. Ten clothing categories. Three specific picks each. No BS. Today...
