"I have a full closet and nothing to wear." That's a line from one of your emails, and I've read it so many times now in so many versions that I could recite it in my sleep. I know that feeling. At one point I owned over 100 pairs of shoes. (Yes. One. Hundred.) A closet packed to the ceiling, and I'd still stand in front of it feeling like I had nothing to put on. How does a closet that full end up feeling that empty? Lately my inbox is full of you saying the same thing in different words."I have a full closet of nothing to wear." "I find myself buying a new wardrobe for every new trip." "I have that one cool outfit I love, but it doesn't work with anything else." "I did a closet clean out... and then bought more clothes and refilled my dresser." I read every one of these and I know exactly where this comes from, and it's not you. I promise. Here's what took me way too long to figure out.Think about how your closet got built. One piece at a time. One occasion at a time. A dress for a wedding. A top for that one dinner. Those pants you bought because they were on sale and they were cute. Every piece got hired for one job. Nobody was ever hired to work together. So when you open the closet, you're not getting dressed. You're trying to turn a room full of strangers into a team. Of course it takes forever. Of course you end up wearing the same three things. You can't trust any of those pieces to cover more than one day. And it shows up worst at the exact moments you need your closet to just WORK. The dinner you forgot about. The weekend away. The trip that's suddenly next week. 💡 So this is the idea I can't stop thinking about... A travel friendly closet.Simple version: a closet where the clothes you own can go straight into a suitcase, so packing is just picking. Read it one more time. Not a packing method. Not a list. Not living out of a suitcase like me. Just a closet where most of what you own already qualifies. Where the pieces already know each other. So when anything comes up, a dinner, a weekend, a trip, you open the door and pick. And the funny part? A closet built this way is easier on a regular Tuesday too. Because the same thing that makes a piece good for a suitcase (comfortable, easy, goes with everything) is what makes it good for your everyday life. The one thing that got me there (you can start today)Back when Gordon and I were saving to leave, I went four years with almost no shopping. Which, by the way, turned out to be the best styling teacher I ever had. During those years I started asking one question before I kept or bought anything: "Would I travel with this?" That question does a lot of work, so here's what it means in plain English: ✅ Comfy for a full day? Not cute for two hours at dinner. Comfortable from breakfast to bedtime. Walking, sitting, sweating, all of it. ✅ Does it pack light? Rolls small. Comes out of a suitcase looking fine. ✅ Does it go with what I already own? At least 3 outfits with pieces already in my closet. Not "3 outfits if I buy two more things." Right now, as is. Not a yes to all three? It doesn't come home. Or it goes in the donate bag. I still ask this every single time. Next time you're holding something in a store, or pulling something out of your closet, just ask. That's it. That's the whole first step. So you can see what I mean, here are 5 pieces from my closet that pass every time:
None of these were bought for one occasion. That's the whole point. (all are coming to Italy with me too) 🎯 Now I need something from YOU...I'm working on this idea and I want to build it around what you actually struggle with, not what I assume from my side of the screen. I still don't know what it would look like... email series, videos, something on social media... Idk yet. But let me know... 👇🏼
Your replies and votes truly help me shape future emails. This space exists for YOU ♥️ And if you have a minute, hit reply and tell me the story behind your vote. What's the moment your closet lets you down? I read and answer every single one. Thanks so much for being here! XO, Aimara >>> PS: if you've emailed me in the past 2 weeks, I'm sorry I haven't replied. We've been traveling and having way too much fun with family, so I haven't sat down to reply to your emails. I promise I'll get to them by Sunday. (next time I'll set up an automatic reply. I feel so bad for not getting back to you 🙈) |

Last time we spent fall in Italy, we ran from the cold weather. (that's what we usually do 😅) 11 weeks, September to December. We started in the north, and headed south to Sicily. It was glorious! I barely needed any cold weather clothes. This time is different. There's no escape route. We leave in 9 days and we're staying north the whole time. ON PURPOSE. Since transitioning to making 'Ways of Style' our full time jobs, we noticed a huge gap in the content I share. There's not much fall...
“Itchy just thinking about it” That’s what one of you wrote back after my fall packing list email a few weeks back. She wasn’t the only one. Every time I mention merino or cashmere, a few of you reply with some version of: love the list, can’t wear half of it. Meanwhile I’ve been over here recommending merino and cashmere like it’s my job. (It kind of is 😅) So today’s email is for you. Same goal as always: warm, cute, and light enough for a carry-on. Zero wool. Why those fabrics feel so...
There are two kinds of women reading this email right now. One of you has a packing list that was made months ago. Checked twice. Possibly color coded. Your suitcase comes out of the closet 2 months early “to give yourself time.” The other one? Your bag doesn’t come out until the night before. Maybe the morning of. You throw a few things in, zip it, and tell yourself what you always tell yourself: it always works out. Type A packer. Type B packer. You already know which one you are. (you’re...
